Our bike-tours in Southern Dalmatia, the smallest and most sparsely populated region in Croatia, will take us past unique little towns and the beautiful island countryside. These tours will let us experience the beautiful island of Korcula with its picturesquely situated old township, the wine growing peninsula of Peljesac and to the south of the peninsula the island of Mljet, with its impressive national park. Our tour guide will guide you through the towns of Trogir, Hvar, Stari Grad and Korcula, which are almost all protected by UNESCO‘s world heritage list.
On a romantic motor yacht - your floating hotel - discover the charm of the Adriatic in your own special way. You cycle off after a hearty breakfast. At midday meet the ship at a harbour for lunch. In the evening the ship will be waiting in the next harbour, so that you can enjoy fantastic cuisine as the sun sets, followed by a stroll through the historic harbour town. Finally, settle down in your cabin to sleep - or stay on deck under a thousand stars...
An Overview of the Trip...
A united Yugoslavia no longer exists. Croatia seceded from the federation in June, 1991, was recognized as an independent country under international law on January 15, 1992, and gained membership in the United Nations. There was no fighting on the islands. Since 1995, Croatia has experienced continuous growth in tourism.
Your tour guides, who will accompany you during the entire bike trip, will introduce you to past times and guide you through the turbulent history of Croatia. If you would like to prepare for the tour by reading more about the places you will visit in a more specialized guidebook, the following overview might be helpful:
The bike-tours require a basic level of fitness from participants, which they should have acquired from regular or leisure cycling. The tours will take us up to a height of between 200 and 500 m above sea-level. The day-tours from 30 to 50 km will take us through hilly and mountainous terrain and will be completed without any time-constraints. Participants will also need to master long and steep climbs, during which they are, however, also permitted to push their bikes. You are free to set aside a half or full day to swim or spend on board the boat, instead of taking a planned bike-tour. We will traverse mostly asphalted roads, which are rarely travelled on outside the holiday seasons. Each day you can either decide to bike alone, using the information and maps provided, or join the two tour guides or other participants.
Helmet use is mandatory on this tour, and you are strongly encouraged to bring your own (well-fitted) helmet.
Accommodation:
Ship KAPETAN JURE (all cabins with shower/toilet) 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 5/1, 5/15, 5/22, 6/5, 8/21, 9/4, 9/18, 10/2, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23/2010
The KAPETAN JURE is a 27-metre-long and 7-metre-wide comfortable and spacious wooden motor yacht that was built in 2000. 11 of the 15 cabins are on deck. 10 of these are furnished with the two beds arranged side by side, while one cabin has bunk beds. The remaining 4 cabins are below deck, and are furnished with a French bed (140 cm wide) and a porthole. Captain Anton and his crew form an experienced team, which knows how to pamper their guests with delicious specialties.
The cabins have simple, but functional equipment and are furnished with two beds and a small wardrobe or an open shelf. There is enough space for sleeping and storing a sea bag or a travel bag. Due to the shape of the ship’s hull, the size of the cabins may vary. However, a price differentiation is made only with respect to cabins “on deck” and “below deck”.
Ship San Snova (all cabins with shower/toilet)4/24 and 8/28 Trogir to Dubrovnik, 6/27 and 10/17 Dubrovnik to Trogir
The MS San Snova is a brand-new wooden motor sailer launched in spring of 2009 and made exclusively for Island hopping cruises. The ship, constructed entirely of oak, was built in three years by the Scherka family in their own carpentry workshop as family project. The ship, 31 m long and 8 m wide, meets the highest expectations in regard to comfort, elegance and style, combining romantic seafaring with modernity and functionalism. Young captain Tonci, his brother Josip and ever-cheerful Jelena pride themselves in the meticulous appearance of the ship and the cordiality on board. The San Snova has five double cabins (with French beds 200 x 160 cm) and five triple cabins above deck (with French beds 200 x 160 cm and bunk beds 200 x 80 cm) as well as two three-bed-cabins and two four-bed-cabins below deck (all with single beds 200 x 90 cm). The fittings of the cabins as well as the saloon and the outside area are of superior quality with many carefully created details. The roomy sun deck offers comfortable mats for relaxing and lounge chairs are found on the afterdeck. So let your self be pampered end enjoy the “Dream of Dreams” (San Snova), as the Scherka family named their new ship!
Ship Romantica (all cabins with shower/toilet) 4/24, 6/12, 6/26, 7/3, 7/17, 7/31, 8/14, 8/28, 9/11/2010
The Romantica of captain Jure was launched only in May 2007. The ship is 32 m long and 7.6 m wide and it possesses a solid structural steelwork, which, as the name says, connects romance with modern trend and functionality. To the elegant appearance of his captain Jure pays a lot of attention: 17 comfortably equipped cabins with a size of 9-10 square m also offer sufficient area to larger groups to accommodation. The generous cabins feature elevated equipment. The far sundeck offers couch mats for sunbathing and relaxing. A characteristic of the ship is a platform at the stern of the boat, from which you can take a bath in the sea in a very comfortable way.
Adonis (all cabins with shower/toilet) 7/24, 8/7/2010
“Adonis” is a 24-metre-long and 6-metre-wide two-masted yacht that was built in 1975. Captain Tihomir rebuilt the ship for cruising in 2002/2003, and each of the 10 cabins was furnished with a shower and a toilet. There are 8 cabins on deck, each of which has a door that opens to the outside. Captain Tihomirs' crew offers excellent service and cuisine with delicious typical Croatian food. If you'd like to be shown the most beautiful bays for swimming, Tihomir is a proven specialist, because he knows waters of the Kvarner bay like the back of his hand. The cozy saloon invites you to spend some time with new friends. On the covered rear deck of the ship is an inviting table situated where you can enjoy your meals. 100 square metres of sundeck offers enough room for enjoying the sun while under way.
Magellan (all cabins with shower/toilet) 5/22, 5/29, 9/25, 10/2
The 35 m long and 7.70 m wide vessel has a total of 19 air-conditioned cabins, of which 11 are located above deck. 5 of them are equipped with a double bed, 2 with a double bed and an extra single bed above. The others are equipped with twin beds. Below deck there are 6 cabins with separate beds and two cabins with double bed and one extra bed above, available. On two sun decks, you can relax during the sails and the air-conditioned salon is ideal for a get-together.
Otac Nikola 5/8
The stylish two-masted motor yacht measuring 21 m by 7 m has a steel hull painted a brilliant white that attracts attention in every harbour. The Otac Nikola can accommodate a maximum of 30 guests in 13 tastefully furnished cabins. Five double cabins are located below deck, four three-bed-cabins on the maindeck and four more double cabins on the upper deck. The spacious sundecks on two levels are equipped with comfortable chairs and sunbeds. The ship has a swim platform at the stern that makes it very easy for swimmers to get in and out of the water.
Catering:
The cook on board is a member of the crew and prepares the breakfast and two warm meals a day. The full board starts with the lunch on the arrival day and ends with the breakfast on the departure day.
Bringing Children:
We believe that only children in a good physical condition and of a minimum age of 10 and previous bicycle tour experience are able to master the bike-tours on their own strength. Please note that the minimum height for a rental bike is 1.40 m (4ft 6in). Under Croatian law, children aged 16 and under must wear a helmet when cycling.
Guided tour:
The tour will generally be guided in German language. One of the guides will translate into English for
non-German-speaking participants.

Day 1: (Sat) Split (approx. 20 km/12 miles)
Individual arrival by car to Trogir or by plane to Split airport, which is about 5 km/3 mi. away from the boarding harbour of Trogir. After check in on the motor yacht the first small cruise begins at 1 pm from Trogir to Split. Here you will undertake your first cycle tour to the Marjan mountain, a popular relaxation destination for the inhabitants of Split. After dinner your guide will accompany you on a walk through the old town of Split, which is built into the famous palace of the Roman Caesar Diokletian and is a world heritage site.
Day 2: (Sun) Cetina Canyon (approx. 43 km/27 miles)
After breakfast we cycle into the valley of the Cetina River, which has buried itself deep into the cliff faces. We return to Omiš with its pirate castles by way of small side roads through a varied landscape. There is also the option of taking part in a 2 hour rafting tour on the Cetina River. In the afternoon we cross over to Brac Island with a swim break. The island of Brac is very famous for its white marble which has been used for the White House in Washington and the Reichstag in Berlin.
Day 3: (Mon) Brac Island (approx. 30 km/19 miles)
Today's route begins in Pucišca with a long but moderate ascent to the mountain ridge of the island past mulberry, kiwi and fig trees, olive groves and vineyards. The following descent to Bol rewards us for our earlier climb with amazing panoramic views of the neighboring island Hvar. Right before lunch we cross to the island of Korcula. Overnight stay in the picturesque harbor of Racišce.
Day 4: (Tues) Pelješac Peninsula and Mljet (approx. 12 km/ 7 mi. + 26km/16 miles)
Early in the morning the ship takes us to Mljet, which is also known as the honey island. In the 12th century Benedictine monks founded a beautifully situated monastery, which we will see on our short bike trip. The local pine forest is one of the most beautiful of its kind in the entire Mediterranean region; Odysseus is said to have spent 7 years here. Today this region is a National park and one of the highlights of every Dalmatian journey.
At noon we continue our journey to Pelješac Peninsula. It impresses visitors even from afar with its Sv. Ilja Mountain, which rises almost 1000 meters from the sea. After arrival in Trstenik we make a cycle tour into the inland of the island, past the most famous wine growing region of Dalmatia (the excellent Plavac und Dingac wines come from here), to Orebic.
After arrival we cross to Korcula Island whose capital town vies with Venice for the title of the birth place of Marco Polo. There is enough time for us for an extensive stroll through the alleys of this beautiful town.
Day 5: (Wed) Korcula Island (approx. 55 km/34 miles)
Crossover during breakfast to Korcula Island. The peacefulness and remoteness of luscious gardens with large cypresses dominate the appearance of perhaps the most beautiful Dalmatian island. You will cycle along the 12km/7 mi. long coastal road to Racisce for lunch. After a short period of pushing your bike to Pupnat you will reach the old 200m/660 ft. high pass road above the magnificent bay of Pupnat and later the village of Blato, which like Rome, was built on 7 hills. Overnight stay in the harbour of Vela Luka.
Day 6: (Thurs) Hvar Island (20 + 25 km/12.5 + 15 miles)
After arriving in Hvar we make an interesting tour around the town, across the large Renaissance square, which is lined with the cathedral and many late gothic palaces. Our first bike tour for today leads us along the almost traffic free pass road through small villages. After lunch in Stari Grad we make a second cycle tour. The destinations for the tour are the harbors of Jelsa and Vrboska, which invite us to an extended break. We stay overnight in Stari Grad, which has become a Mecca for artists and art lovers in the past few years.
Day 7: (Fri) Solta Island (approx. 19 km/12 miles)
After crossing over to Stomorska on the island of Solta you will commence your last cycle tour. Walled fields, numerous olive groves, locust bean and fig trees line the roads. The herby smells of lavender and rosemary will accompany you along your tour of this island. In Maslinica you can load the bikes onto the ship and enjoy your last crossing back to Trogir, where if time permits, you can take a tour of the old town which is a world heritage site.
Day 8: (Sat) Departure
Check-out before 9 am and arrange own travel home.
