Description

On a classic route, this tour gives you both wonderful landscapes along the river Danube's banks as well as visits to the most important Danube metropolis' Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest - cities still sparkling with the glamour of long-gone times. The places you visit during this tour along the wonderful and ever-changing river banks are full of stories and history - always combined with a touch of nostalgia. The castle of Eckarstau was the place where the last Austrian emperor Karl I and his wife Zita met their fate. In Bratislava, the coronation of the Hungarian kings took place. This is also where the famous empress Maria Theresia acquired her fame and glory. In Esztergom, the first Hungarian king Stephan was born and crowned king. Daily Program

    Day 1: Vienna
Individual arrival. The magic of this lively city will delight you. How about some shopping or a visit to a traditional Viennese winery?

    Day 2: Vienna - Bad Deutsch Altenburg/surroundings (approx. 46 km/29 miles)
Not far from the city of Vienna begins the untouched alluvial landscape: a nature reserve with a stunning flora and fauna. Get away from it all and enjoy the wonderful silence, interrupted only by the twitter of the birds. In Bad Deutsch Altenburg already the ancient Romans were relaxing in the nice warm water. The Archaeological Park of Carnuntum invites you to an exciting journey into the past.

    Day 3: Bad Deutsch Altenburg/surroundings - Bratislava (approx. 32 km/20 miles)
Imbedded between the hills of Hainburg and the small Carpathian mountains is the blue band of the Danube. You start with a short train transfer and cycle on to Bratislava, Europe's youngest capital. Between the Danube plain, hills and vineyards, it enchants with a dreamy old quarter.

    Day 4: Bratislava - Szigetkoz - Gyor (approx. 45 km/28 miles)
The landscape of the Szigetkoz is an idyllic paradise for birds and fish. In the midst of this wild and untouched landscape with more than 500 tiny islands you will find farming villages and a labyrinth of countless Danube creeks. After a short train ride you reach Gyor with its beautiful baroque-style old town.

    Day 5: Gyor - Komarom (approx. 35-45 km/22-30 miles)
The national stud of Babolna - world-famous for its Arabian horse breeding - is worth a visit. While you visit the stud and the stud museum, you can catch a glimpse of some secrets of Hungarian horse breeding. Cycle through rolling hills into the split town of Komarom, the favorite town of King Matthias.

    Day 6: Komarom - Esztergom/surroundings (approx. 58 km/36 miles)
Today you cycle along the Slovakian Danube river bank on the dam and small roads with little traffic, through idyllic villages. On your way to the town of bishops and kings - Esztergom (also called "Hungarian Rome"), you pass the Roman fort of Kelemantia. The basilica of Esztergom is the biggest church in Hungary, and also the rest of the town is a highlight of the tour.

    Day 7: Esztergom/surroundings - Budapest (approx. 58 km/36 miles by bike, and 15 km/9 miles by boat)
In the middle of the hilly landscape the river Danube is divided: On the Szentendre-island you cycle through idyllic villages. The mainland village of Szentendre is famous for its numerous handicraft boutiques and the open air museum Skanzen. A special highlight are the famous sights of Budapest you can enjoy during your boat trip into town.

    Day 8: Budapest
The morning is at your disposal. Departure by scheduled public bus daily at 3:30 pm (on request with reservation upon tour booking departure at 7pm possible, no changes or cancellations after tour start accepted); arrival in Vienna at approx. 3:30 pm, schedules subject to change.
