Description

Discover the very nice region between the Rhine and the Maas on the dutch side. Lovely towns await you. As all the other towns and villages, Kevelaer looks like a Dutch town with its typical gothic architecture. It is the greatest pilgrims' town in northwestern Europe with about 1 million visitors.

Xanten's cathedral is built in romanesque and gothic style and possesses very beautiful altars in wood from the 15th and 16th centuries. This town has kept its medieval and gothic character, a part of the walls and ancient windmills. The archaeological park reminds you that Xanten has been an important roman colony some 2000 years ago. Not less medieval and gothic is Kalkar. The gothic church Nikolai possesses one of the most important collection of medieval altars in wood.

Kleve was considered the most elegant Residence town in Prussia of the 18th century. Great French and English parks and very nice buildings witness the glorious past of this ancient capital of the duchy of Kleve. Our tour continues along the river of Maas in the Netherlands. You will see other lovely castles, villages and towns as Gennep, Well, Arcen and Nimegue, Venlo.

The various and very charming landscapes of the Low Rhineland await you. You will ride on little roads and paths along the Rhine and the Maas, but also on paths along other little rivers like the Nette and Niers on the last day, when you return to Kevelaer.
Route:

About 190-230 km, mainly on flat and quiet roads and paths that anybody can do.
