Gems of Salzburg and Bavaria Bavarian Lakes |
|
|
Anyone who loves a bike tour through a soft hilly landscape and idyllic towns, embedded in-between mountains and lakes is going to enjoy this hike through the Bavarian Chiemgau. The guest meets with open-minded people that have spelled hospitality with a capital H. The warmth of the small towns is a real trump card. You can have a chat, eat and drink all on one table. The impressions of a special intensity stay behind with you.
You are confronted with an important historical past, because this is where Celts, Romans and the Bavarians used to live; from here Salzburg's archbishops and the Bavarian dukes have influenced the course of history. One should put the bike aside once in a while to take a look at excavations sites, fortresses out of the Middle Ages, gothic chapels and monasteries.
And naturally make a tour of the festspiele (festival) town Salzburg, the town where the tour begins and ends. Well maintained bicycle paths will take you on a tour through a part of traditional Bavarian culture - the customs and the cuisine. A high level of physical fitness is not required, but an interest in origin and authenticity. Then the tour around the Bavarian Sea (Chiemsee - Lake Chiem) will be an unforgettable experience.
Route features:
Usually hilly, mainly easy for biking. Partly bicycle paths, mainly meadow paths and sometimes side roads. A few short distances on traffic roads.
Oberammergau Passion Play Accommodation will also be booked by people attending the 2010 Passion Play, so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.
