"We had a terrific time. First of all, thank you and BikeToursDirect for masterly and professionally handling our trip from start to finish. We would highly recommend you to anyone considering booking a bike vacation. Your European partners run a first-class operation. Hotels were generally 4 star and well-placed along the incredibly well-marked and easy to follow route. Hotels included full breakfasts that were both lavish and filling, well beyond the continental breakfasts we’ve sadly come to expect in American hotels, and the dinner supplement package was equally terrific.
"Our bikes were sturdy and comfortable. The bike route was unbelievably well planned with easy to understand signs at every turn. We followed signs from one town to the next. You could not get lost. I’d say that 70% of the routes were on newly paved dedicated bike paths. Sometimes you needed to ride on busy federal roads with traffic – and for us in a driving rain - but Austrians seem to accept bicyclists as partners on the road, so it was never a concern. However, after the Salzkammergut, the ride was strictly along leisurely bike paths that followed the Danube. Each day, you simply made a decision to take the north or south bank depending upon what you cared to see. Arriving in Vienna was easy. Like most European cities, there are countless numbers of dedicated bike paths that made it fun to ride through a major city.
"Finally, for diversity, I’d recommend the Salzkammergut Lakes option rather than the dedicated Danube path. Seeing the tall mountains and blue-green lakes was breath-taking. True, there we some hills to climb – one long one in particular – but all in all it shouldn’t be a deterrent for taking this option. It was indeed a great adventure, not to mention the value – despite the strong Euro.
Thanks again. All the best."

Austria sits at the crossroads of Central Europe, once the Habsburg Empire’s seat of power that ruled Europe for over 6 centuries. While Habsburg power ended after World War I, Austria remains a prominent country. Today it is known for its idyllic and majestic landscape of mountains, green valleys, rivers and storybook villages. Along with such a landscape are the cultural centers of Vienna and Salzburg. The elegant city of Vienna reveals the glory days of the Habsburg Empire, featuring the Hofburg Imperial Palace, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and impressive Opera House. Salzburg, home of Mozart and The Sound of Music, has Europe’s largest intact medieval fortress overlooking the cobblestone streets of its historic Old Town.
