"The heart of Europe" is what the Istrians call their peninsula, inspired by its shape and its position at the crossroads of European arteries, cultures and nations. This is where Central Europe and the world of Mediterranean meet. On this tour, we explore the most popular part of the Croatian coast.
Starting in Pula, the ship takes us a bit further north every day, and our tour guides show us the most beautiful routes of the whole coastal region. We visit the paradise of nature on the islands of Brijuni, the Lim channel with its caves, the coastal cities Porec, Rovinj and Pula, as well as the Istrian hinterland, a famous wine and truffle region.

Day 1: Pula – Medulin – Bay (19 miles/30 km)
Individual arrival at Pula, the secret capital of Istria, a town full of impressive remains of its Roman past. If you arrive by car, we arrange a secure parking place for you. From 11.00 a.m. onward, you can move into your cabins on the motor yacht. Our first bike tour takes us from the harbor along beautiful bays to the southern tip of Istria. From there, we ride on a good asphalt road to Medulin, easily recognized from afar by its two white church towers. In the shady village square, we take a short break for refreshments. From Medulin, we bike to a quiet bay for our overnight.
Day 2: Vrsar - Porec (19 miles/30 km)
After breakfast, we start on a ca. 3.5 hrs cruise to Vrsar, the town where lady killer Casanova found temporary refuge from lovers pursuing him. Starting from Vrsar, we bike along the Lim fjord to Klostar in the hinterland. After a break, long enough to taste some fresh suckling pig, our route takes us to Porec. On a walk after dinner with our town guide, we encounter the evidence of the town's eventful past at every step along the way, stroll-ing through the charming historical center, with its beautiful buildings of many different periods, and the bustling shopping lanes. The famous Euphrasius Basilica, with its gorgeous early Christian mosaics, is also well worth a visit.
Day 3: Porec – Groznjan - Umag (38 miles/60 km)
Today's bike tour takes us from Porec through extensive vineyards to Visnjan, home of the famous white Boskarin Cattle. After a coffee break, we can decide to continue cycling through the gentle hills of the hinterland via Vizinada to the artists' village of Groznjan and further to Umag. Or, we return to Porec and the boat takes us to Umag, which offers a picturesque old town center located on a promontory with the remains of a medieval city wall. Dinner on board.
Day 4: Umag – Savudrija – Umag - Novigrad (12+10 miles/20+15 km)
In the morning, we undertake a round trip to the Savudrija peninsula, the northernmost point of Istria. In favorable weather conditions we have an amazing view as far as Slovenia, Italy and even the Alps. On the way back to the ship, there are plenty of opportunities for a refreshing dip in the sea. In the afternoon, we bike along quiet sea promenades from Umag to Novigrad. There, we find the impressive battlement of the city wall as well the 7th cent. Pelagius Basilica. Around the pretty harbor we find many cafes and bars, where we can end of the day.
Day 5: Novigrad – Porec – Vrsar (12+10 miles/20+15 km)
After breakfast, we leave Novigrad and bike along the coast to Porec. Here we meet up with the ship and have time for a swim or another stroll through the wonderful old town center. After lunch on board, we continue along the coast to Vrsar, where we'll spend the night. Along the way we have a break at an open air museum, where we can admire the sculptures of the famous stone mason school of Vrsar.
Day 6: Rovinj - Palud (12 miles/20 km)
In the morning our ship takes us to Rovinj, often called the "pearl of Istria." The charm of this dreamy artists' town quickly captivate us. After a round trip to the Palud Nature Reserve, we have plenty of time to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Rovinj. After dinner, a town guide leads us through the maze of narrow lanes making up the old town.
Day 7: Barbariga – Fazana – Brijuni Islands - Pula (12 miles/20 km)
After a short cruise to the bay of Barbariga, we unload our bikes, cycle to Fazana and cross with a ferry over to the Brijuni Islands. Until Tito's death in 1980, the paradise of the Brijuni Islands was a prohibited area accessi-ble only to the government elite and their official guests. The island's sightseeing train takes us to the remotest corners of this subtropical nature park with its lush vegetation and exotic fauna. On the way across the island, we also visit some well preserved Roman excavations with a local guide. In the evening, we bike from Fazana to Pula, where dinner on board of the ship is already waiting for us. The last evening aboard takes place traditionally and includes the communal dinner and a last get-together in a cozy atmosphere with crew and tour guides.
Day 8: Disembarkation at Pula
After breakfast disembarkation until 9 a.m. and individual trip home or extended stay in Croatia.
Changes

Ships in Croatia
Most of our ships are traditional motor powered sailing yachts. They are not luxury steamers, but rather boats with a lot of charm and style. Their owners who frequently also captain the boats may have completed some additional modifications to their ships over the winter. That is why the descriptions of the boats may no longer be completely accurate.
If, for whatever reason, one of the ships we chartered would be cancelled due to unexpected circumstances, the tour operator will arrange a worthy replacement and will duly informthe participants about this change. You will find the name of your ship on your booking confirmation.
Some of our boats are equipped with sails. They are an impressive adornment recalling old tradition. Sailing is a unique experience for many guests. If weather conditions are good the captains may hoist the sails once a week. However, sailing is slow and in order to make quick progress the captain will usually rely on the engine.
Tarin ship (shower/toilet in each cabin)
The Tarin, painted dark green with white stripes, catches the eye from afar in every harbour. It has 11 cabins at the guest's disposal.
The cabin furnishings are a demonstration of the great care Captain Nevio has invested in building his treasure. Light-colored wood, curtains at the large windows, and the charming furnishings of the spacious cabins make you feel right at home on this ship. Lounging mattresses on deck and shaded tables for outside dining guarentee a cozy and relaxed time on board.
This feeling of well-being is enhanced by Nevio and his crew. Here the captain himself - together with his "Admiral" Zeljko - entertains his guests by playing the accordion and the guitar. With good reason, the Tarin is also the favorite boat of many of our tour guides, who always find it particularly hard to say goodbye when it is time to return home. After all, this is their home away from home.
Cabins
The cabins are equipped simply and functionally and have private baths with shower and toilet on all of our boats. There is enough space for sleeping and storing your luggage. Due to the shape of the ship's hull, the size of the cabins may vary. Price differentiations are only made with respect to "above deck" and "below deck" cabins. Cabin allotments are the responsibility of the tour operator and cannot be influenced by tour guides or guests. If you are sensitive to noise (especially in unfamiliar surroundings) we recommend the use of noise-reducing products. Insulation is not comparable to houses.
Cabin service
There is a daily cabin service on board which takes place during the bicycle tours. It includes the cleaning of floor and bath as well as the bedding (personal belongings should be removed). The towels will be changed once in the middle of the week. In case you do not prefer cabin service or it has not been done please contact the travel guides. Should the group not be able to leave the ship due to environmental forces it may be that the cabin service does not apply.
Electricity and water on board
Electricity and water are of course provided on board but not in unlimited amounts. The water tanks are filled according to the number of people on board. There is enough water available for washing and showers even if the tanks cannot be refilled for several days. However, we presuppose that all passengers use this valuable resource sparingly. The ships also use a central heater for the showers. This also means that there is only enough warm water if people use the showers only for as long as it is really necessary (for example: turn off the water while soaping up).
The boat uses a 220 V generator which is not run constantly - amongst other reasons in order to keep the peace at night. The power supply on board is accessible with Euro-wall-sockets (as customary in Germany). Guests from UK and other countries with different socket systems are kindly requested to bring their own appropriate adaptors.
Sleeping on Deck
Many guests feel that spending a night outside in the fresh air is a unique experience. There is enough space on the deck for that purpose. However, you should bring your own sleeping bag and an insulated mat as it is not permitted to take the mattresses and sheets out of the cabins.
Catering on board
Meals included in the price of the tour consist of half-board. The food served on board is typically Mediterranean and higher nutritional demands of bikers are taken into account. Breakfast on board generally includes at least bread, butter, cheese, ham, coffee and tea. For lunch, the chef generally serves light fish dishes or vegetarian meals. For dinner, there are usually fish or meat dishes. (If lunch or dinner is served on board depends on the daily itinerary).
Beverages
The saloon on the ship is a restaurant, lounge, and bar all in one. Here you can always get cool drinks – with or without alcohol. Generally, the crew keeps track of your drinks in a list that is tallied up for payment at the end of the trip. Naturally the drinks on board are slightly more expensive than in the supermarket around the corner, but, after all, you are in a small "floating restaurant." Just as in every bar or restaurant it is not allowed to bring your own drinks on board. For bottled mineral water (without fizz) a flat rate of 20,00 euros per person/week is charged. Children under 18 pay 10,00 euros per person/week. This flat rate includes all water consumed on board and on bike tours.
Local tax
At the end of the trip, 20,00 euro are to be paid to the captain for the visitor's tax and local charges. For children under 18 years, you have to pay 10,00 euro for the visitor's tax and local charges.

Hybrid touring bike, 21-gear, "Islandhopping" brand
If you have reserved a rental bicycle, you receive a 21-gear aluminum Islandhopping touring bike on arrival. These bikes are made especially for us and are the result of our long experience in cycling tourism. The men's bikes have a frame size of 56 cm or 60 cm, and the frames of the women's bikes are 46 cm and 52 cm. All the Islandhopping bicycles have a fender, a kickstand, a rack and a quick release seat. The bicycles are deliberately not equipped with bottle holders in order to avoid accidents.
A 7-speed hybrid touring bike with saddle bag is also availbe on request.
Alternative: electrically assisted bike, Swiss brand FLYER
Cycle hassle-free and climb mountains without difficulty. Electronic Bikes will make it possible. They are the declaration if independence for everybody who enjoys activity! The i:SY-Flyer ECO, a relatively light model which weighs 50 lbs., is a compact bike with a special low frame geometry for easy mounting and 20-inch wheels. The handlebar "Speedlifter Twist" is turnable, making the bike space-efficient for storage. This E-Bike model is equipped with an 8-gear-Shimano hub gearshift (Nexus) as well as Shimano V-brakes. A 10-amp battery along with an 8-amp back-up allow for unlimited riding pleasure. On each of our ships in Croatia, 2-5 E-Bikes are available and can be rented for a weekly fee of 140 euros. Due to the limited number of E-Bikes a reservation in good time is required.
The use of rucksacks (except for hydration packs) is in our opinion less practical than handlebar bags or saddlebags. The later are more easily accessible. If necessary we supply you with a waterproof saddlebag by Ortlieb - a practical way of carrying drinks, bathing gear, camera etc.
Should you prefer your own saddle (without the post) or your own click pedal please bring them with you and let your tour guide attach them to your rental bicycle.
Obligatory safety helmets
In order to guarantee optimum protection, we request that you bring your own helmet and - for your own safety - wear it on all bike tours. You are free not to wear a helmet if you are aware of the risks and take over the responsibility for yourself. However, keep in mind that Croatia has a helm duty for children less than 16 years.

This tour is one of the less demanding in our program. The bike routes require a basic level of fitness which you should have acquired by occasional or daily cycling. The daily routes of 12 to 27 mi. cover hilly or mountainous terrain and can be completed without time constraints. The routes can reach an altitude of 650 to 1,300 ft. You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs where pushing your bike is permitted. The roads are mostly asphalted and usually there is little traffic.
The tour guides will inform you about the course of the tour in due time. You can always choose to skip a bike tour and spend the time sunbathing on the ship instead. You can also decide each day for yourself whether you would like to cycle individually using the maps provided or join one of the tour guides.
We generally believe that only children with a lot of cycling experience and in a good physical condition aged 10 years and older are able to master the bike tours with their own. Furthermore, we offer bicycle rental only for people of 5 ft height or more. For smaller children, bicycle seats are limited available (reservation required).
This tour is rated Leisure and is for cyclists in average physical condition.

A rich, cultural history and diverse, majestic landscape describes the country of Croatia. Calling their country “Our Beautiful Homeland”, the Croats offer a warm welcome to visitors who want to experience the wonders of Croatia. Flat plains along the Hungarian border, low mountains and highlands near the Adriatic coastline and over 1,000 islands explain why Croatia is one of few nations to have three distinct climate zones.
Diversity continues in the Croatian culture with four cultural circles thriving together: Western, Eastern and Central Europe, and Mediterranean. Each culture retains its unique customs, including lace-making in Lepoglava, bell ringers in the Kasta region and Ojkanje singing in the Dalmatia region. Cuisine varies in the coastal region that favors seafood specialties, olive oil and prosciutto compared to the continental region that favors meat products, freshwater fish and vegetables. Other highlights include Roman Emperor Diocletian's Palace in Split, a Roman amphitheatre in Pula and the city of Dubrovnik, known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic."

If we are solely procurers of foreign services, we are liable only for proper procurement, not for the services. We are liable for damage or loss of luggage up to the amount of 250 € only if the damage was caused by us and was indicated to us immediately. Scratches on luggage, torn luggage handles, and damaged wheels are excluded from any liability. Upon delivery of luggage at the accommodation facilities, the liability is transferred according to § 701 BGB to the officer of the accommodations. Services that were not made use of will not be reimbursed.
Participation
A vacation that involves exercise and physical activity requires greater commitment than a conventional package tour. It is your duty to make certain that you are up to the physical challenges of such a trip. The pre-condition for a bike-tour is that you are able to handle a bicycle in street traffic and on unpaved paths under any weather conditions. If you rent a bike, it is your responsibility to check the condition of the bike, particularly the brakes. You bear sole responsibility for adhering to all legal regulations at home and abroad, particularly regulations about travel documents and cross-border trade. When traveling across the exterior borders of the EU, your luggage must remain unlocked, to facilitate passage through customs. If your baggage is searched, you will be notified about it upon arrival at the destination. If problems with the procurement of the services occur, you are required to help within the scope of legal regulations, in order to avoid potential damages or keep them at a minimum and report any complaints to us immediately.
Duty of Care
During the duration of the trip, you are liable for damage to or loss of bicycles and any equipment entrusted to you. For guided tours, this is only valid if you have separated yourself from the group, have disobeyed instructions from the tour guides, or caused the damage or loss intentionally, through negligence or gross negligence.
Warranty
You can demand redress if the trip services are not rendered according to the contract. This can be solved by us providing compensation of equal or greater value. In the case of disproportionate effort, corrective action can be denied. For the period in which the services that have not been rendered according to contract, you can request a reduction in travel price after your return. The pre-condition for this is the immediate notification of our deficiencies or those of our tour guides, so that we have the opportunity to find a remedy. Tour guides are not authorized to recognize claims. Independent of a reduction in travel price, you can demand compensation due to non-compliance with the travel contract, unless we are not responsible for the defect.
Limitation of claim
Claims must be made in writing within one month of the contractual end of the trip. The statute of limitation for claims based on the contract expires six months after the contractual end of the trip. The statute of limitations for all claims of civil offence expires three years after the end of the trip.
