This tour has two optional start cities: Paris or Burgundy (La Charité sur Loire). Both itineraries are listed below.
Day 1 : Paris
We welcome you at the Feniks, you can settle in to your cabin and meet the crew and your companions while enjoying coffee and tea with cake. Leaving thriving Paris by ship on Saturday afternoon is an easy start for the tour. Enjoy the boat trip on the Seine river while our guide explains more about the tour. From the mooring place we will make a short try-out bike tour to see if your bike fits and to get you ready for the cycling in the coming days. In the evening we serve you a welcome dinner. After dinner you can join our guide on a walk into town. Overnight in Paris suburb.
Day 2: Paris suburb - Melun (31 miles/50 km)
Every morning we serve you a good breakfast and you can make your own lunch package just the way you like it. After breakfast the boat leaves for the next town, you can choose to stay on the boat or to go cycling. On Sunday your bike tour starts with a ride through small suburbs, forest, along the river to the town of Melun. Near this town is the famous Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte. We welcome you back home at the Feniks in the afternoon with a bowl of home made soup and some afternoon snacks. After dinner our guide takes you for a walk into town. Overnight in Melun.
Day 3: Melun - Moret sur Loing (18/37 miles; 30/60 km)
Today we will cycle through the forested area around Fontainebleau (visit to castle) heading for the artists village of Barbizon (artists village, 19th century) and Samois sur Seine, well known for Django Reinhardt, the famous jazz musician. We follow the Seine river up to Moret-sur-Loing, a cosy village on the banks of the Loing.
Overnight in Moret sur Long
Day 4: Moret sur Long- Nemours (31 miles/50 km)
From here on the ship has to follow canals, because the rivers are not navigable. That means shorter distances a day because of the quite large number of locks. Throughout your tour to the south there will be opportunities to be on board while the ship is sailing. That might be an early sailing or to board the ship after the bike ride and witness one or more passages through locks. A nice ride in the countryside (villages, forest, riverside) to the town of Nemours. On our way to there we will see some of the famous rocks in the area.
Overnight in Nemours.
Day 5: Nemours - Néronville (18 miles/30 km)
The ship sails to the village of Néronville. Nearby is Chateau Laudon. To the west of this town are several Gallo-Roman traces to be found. The presence of the Romans (Caesar occupied Gaul (now France) between 58 and 52 BC) is quite abundant.
Overnight in Néronville.
Day 6: Néronville - Montargis (34 miles/55 km)
Dordives (glass) and Ferrieres (castle, abbey) can be visited on our way to Montargis, the town with many canals and bridges.
Overnight in Montargis.
Day 7 : Montargis (18 miles/30km)
Montargis is an interesting town (ca. 15.000 inh.) to visit. Today the ship stays here. You have enough time to find your way in town. A bike ride in the morning or afternoon (18 miles/30 km) is a possibillity.
Overnight in Montargis.
Day 8: Montargis - Chatillon Coligny (34 miles/55 km)
Chatillon Coligny is our goal on the Saturday ride. It’s a picturesque town with a medieval fortress.
Overnight in Chatillon Coligny.
Day 9: Chatillon Colligny - Rogny (28 miles/45 km)
A visit to the castle of La Bussiere and the seven locks of Rogny which are still a major touristic attraction in spite of being out of use.
Overnight in Rogny.
Day 10: Rogny - Briare (28 miles/45 km)
On Monday morning we cycle from Rogny to the town of Gien (faience) and meet the Loire river. We finish our daytrip in Briare.
Overnight in Briare.
Day 11: Briare - Beaulieu (31 miles/50 km)
The Loire river, as many other smaller streams in France, is hardly navigable, so in the past centuries canals were dug to connect natural waterways. Parallel to the Loire is a canal. To get there from Briare, the ship has to cross the river by means of an impressive bridge-aquaduct, a ‘horizontal Eiffeltower’. Eiffel was the ingeneer in charge. On Tuesday we leave Briare sailing across the famous aquaduct and are heading for another castle (Brisson). Beaulieu will be the mooring place of our ship.
Overnight in Beaulieu.
Day 12: Beaulieu - Ménétréol (25/52 miles; 40/85 km)
Today a 25-mile (40 km) ride through the vineyards on our way to Ménétréol and the nearby village of Sancerre. This is a nice town in a region with famous vineyards. Our ship will be moored not far away in a village on the canal. This region is also famous for its Chavignol (goat) cheese. A visit to a goatfarm near the town of Cosne is an option. An alternative (perhaps for the better cyclists) is a visit to a very special building site near Guédelon, where dozens of people are building a medieval castle with old fashioned means and tools. This is the reason it might take another 10 years to complete. Guédelon is quite far away from the canal. The total distance will be ca. 85 km.
Overnight in Ménétréol.
Day 13: Ménétréol - La Charité sur Loire (18/28 miles/ 30/45km)
From Sancerre the route goes to La Charité, a cosy little town. We are in the very heart of France now, on the western rim of Burgundy.
Overnight in La Charité.
Day 14: La Charité sur Loire
From La Charité you can visit the bigger town of Nevers. It’s about 21 miles/35 km away, so the biking distance is about 42 miles/70 km. La Charité has a train station. You have the option to visit Nevers by train or choose to take your bike with you in the train (in case of enough space!). Nevers is one of the biggest towns in Burgundy. It has several interesting buildings. Bernadette Soubirous, well known by the aparitions near Lourdes, went into a convent in this town. She is burried in the convent.
Day 15: La Charité sur Loire
On Saturday your tour in to the heart of France comes to an and. We say bye after breakfast and hope you enjoyed your stay at the Feniks.

The Feniks

Originally, the Feniks was built in 1928 as a freighter on the Dutch, Belgium and French waters. She is a very strong vessel with many years of meritorious service and is known because of her beautiful line and speed. In 1992 The Feniks was reconstructed to a hotel passenger ship and put in service for several sailing holidays. Since then The Feniks has undergone several refits to keep the ship up to date with all modern facilities.
Since 2004 Winfred and Els have been the proud owners of The Feniks. They invest continuously to improve the ship and to make your stay on board even more comfortable. On board you will find a comfortable and well lit saloon, where you can relax on the sofa or have a good meal.
We have an extended library on board, a varied collection of cds and dvds, a television and many magazines to entertain you. Of course we have several family/party games a board and not to forget lots of information and maps of the route, the sailing area and the places we are visiting.

The cabins are clean and well cared for. All cabins have an individual bathroom with sink, shower and toilet. We have 3 cabins with beds on the floor and 6 cabins with beds above each other. All beds have 20 cm thick hotel mattresses.
The cabins are equipped with central heating, 220 volt sockets and of course all essentials for a good sleep. There is a washer and dryer available and as well as a

hair dryer, shoe polish, sewing-things, shampoo, soap and everything else you need for a comfortable stay a board of the Feniks.
Outside on the deck you will find various seats to take in the best views over the great landscapes. There is a sundeck to relax on or you can sit under the awning which give you shelter from the sun or light rain. If the weather allows, we serve the meals outside on the deck.
Have you always wanted to drive a ship? Winfred will welcome you in the wheel house.
Your hospitable crew
From truck driver to captain, from head chef to ship's chef, your host and hostess Winfred and Els will give you a warm welcome on board.
For 21 years the couple has spent their lives together on the water. They enjoy the space, the freedom, the many beautiful places and the moments that they experience while living on board the ship. They would like to share these feelings with you because after one day on the water, you will feel relaxed and your worries far away. Together with their ship's dog Layla and their parrot Iggy, they hope to give you an unforgettable time on board The Feniks.
Their pets bring a lot of joy, but Layla is not allowed to enter the saloon because of hygiene. The noble Iggy loves to be around the guests in the saloon, but will respect your wishes if you don't appreciate this.
