Boat and Bike Tour through the Heart of Holland. The perfect tour to enjoy various highlights of Holland. Visit famous historical towns and cities, and enjoy many architectural and cultural highlights in the province of “Zuid-Holland”. Although this is the most densely populated part of the country, you will be surprised when you will visit small, picturesque towns and ride along the cycle tracks through the “Green Heart” and the small “Lake District” of Holland.
During the season (April 21 and 28 and May 5, 2012) time is made to see the tulips at the "Keukenof" (by public transportation and/or taxis; entrance fee and transfers not included).
The Netherlands are “El Dorado” for cyclists: Many thousands of kilometers of cycle tracks enable bike travelers to make relaxing and interesting bike tours, to explore the most beautiful parts of the country and to visit famous towns and picturesque villages, various sights and other highlights.
Furthermore, the “Low Lands” are “a barge traveler’s dream”: almost every important city, town or village and most sights and places of interest can be reached when navigating one of the many inland waterways. Our ships and barges sail in a very relaxing pace, allowing the passengers to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Mooring places are mostly in the very center of historical towns: the most charming places, sights, museums, and shops are often within walking distance. Our guests can take fantastic excursions, enjoy major tourist highlights and meet “the locals” every day.
A typical day
Between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. you will leave your ship, which will be sailing to the next meeting place, and in the meantime you will cycle along the most scenic routes. During self-guided tours, with your bicycle map & tour documentation (included), you can plan your own daily tour yourselves or with the crew. En route, various stops can be individually planned for sightseeing and coffee and lunch breaks.
At the end of your bicycle day, the staff will welcome you on board and coffee and tea are available. In the evening, a delicious three-course dinner will be served on board. Drinks (like wine, beer and soft drinks) are available at a small charge in the bar.
Every evening you will have the opportunity to visit and explore a different town or city or to share your experiences with other guests from various countries in the cozy living room, the bar or on the sun deck of your ship. Daily bicycling distances may vary between approx. 30 and 60 kilometers (18 – 35 miles). Most routes can be considered as "easy", as major parts of the country are flat.
Therefore, our tours are suitable for both experienced, as well as for novice cyclists. In fact, we have many very satisfied guests over 55 years of age, who enjoyed a boat and bike tour very much!
If you prefer to stay on board for one or more days and enjoy the sailing: no problem! That is exactly what makes a boat and bike tour so special and what makes it an ideal holiday for couples, parties of friends, families, small groups and single travelers.
Discover the best of the Netherlands in eight days by boat and bicycle.
Visit places of interest you would never see during a "regular" tour by car or coach. In the morning, an extensive Dutch breakfast will be served and you may make your own packed lunch (sandwiches, fruit, a snack and a drink).
A boat and bike tour in Holland is unique!
Traveling and staying on a ship means that your hotel room and restaurant in fact follows you during your tour. This means: no daily change of room, no packing and unpacking of suitcases, yet traveling and visiting highlights every day and staying in different places every night. The friendly and multilingual crew and kitchen staff on board will serve delicious meals.
Our self-guided, individual bike tours are very suitable for those who do not like to bike in a group. Everyone can choose his or her own speed and, obviously, daily tours can be individually arranged or organized according to your personal interests and daily constitution. On board, you will have many opportunities to meet with other enthusiastic cyclists from various countries.
Therefore, “Boat and Bike Tours” are an excellent way to explore the most beautiful and interesting regions, towns and cities of the Netherlands. Enjoy flowers, cheese and wooden shoes, windmills and waterways, beautiful old towns and romantic villages, cultural highlights and natural beauty in the country of Rembrandt and Van Gogh.

"We're home after our fourth bike trip – safe and sound.
"We enjoyed our Holland biking. The scenery was lovely and charming. Mostly flat with a few inclines when we went to the sand dunes and beach. The Dutch are very clean and pristine. The gardens and yards are well manicured. The little towns are charming. Our tour guide, Jack, was excellent. He led us through the difficult areas and made sure everyone was on track.
"Every evening Jack prepared us for the next day's biking with a review of the map and forewarned us of some difficult spots. Thanks for your help."

"I would HIGHLY recommend this trip. I was hesitant at first being on a barge boat -- but the boat was large enough, with quite an enjoyable ambience for the salon, bar and dining room. Yes, the rooms were small but we knew that and packed accordingly. There was way too much food – and good food – hearty food for the 35 miles averaged day biking. The staff went overboard in being helpful, professional and friendly.
"We had both country and city biking – not a lot of the latter but enough to be able to see the architecture, etc. Jack our tour director took us on walks after dinner when we were docked at the different cities to view the small villages and cities as the boat only traveled during the day while we were biking."

From the famed canals and impressive art collections of Amsterdam and attractions of Rotterdam to the tulip fields carpeting the lush countryside, Holland packs a considerable punch for such a small country. Outside of the large cities, visitors can revisit the Middle Ages through its remaining castles and grand estates. Other highlights of the Dutch countryside include the marshlands, wetlands, and beaches. The walled towns of Holland’s trade and commerce routes are delightful to explore, and the maritime tradition of this coastal land is still seen in its quaint harbor towns.
Dutch tulips are iconic – a symbol of Holland. Mid-March through mid-May transforms the already beautiful countryside into a sea of reds, pinks, purples, and yellows. Another charming symbol of the country, Holland's many windmills are scattered across the landscape and make for postcard-perfect scenery.

Sailing together to pleasant waters
We can help you with almost any requirement you may have, from the hire of a ship, to the complete organisation of your event down to the last detail. It's not only private groups, but also businesses, schools and social clubs that go sailing on the ships. Individuals are welcome too. You don't need any sailing experience, as the crew will teach you the basic principles. Let us know of any specific wishes you may have. Thanks to our many years' experience, we will be able to satisfy them to perfection.
History
Many of the fabulous sailing ships in the fleet have been through less glorious times, languishing in a harbour, or doing service as a houseboat. But as time passed, there were more and more enthusiasts who were prepared to lovingly restore the ships. Gradually, they brought guests along to keep the costs of maintaining the ships down. Over the years, it has grown into a renowned organisation with a very impressive fleet.
Harbours and sailing areas
The ships depart from different ports. Together we have eleven official 'home ports' in the Netherlands. Furthermore, we are active outside the Netherlands and sail around Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Spits Bergen, France, the Channel Islands, England, Sicily, the Lipari Islands, the Balearic Islands, Spain & Morocco, the Canary Islands and the Caribbean.
