Daily Program: Guided
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive in Delhi today. Airport transfers will be provided to all participants. Please note hotel check-in time is 12 noon.
Delhi with its Old and New parts — each with its specific charm and glory — makes a very interesting city for its commitment to medieval and modern cultures at the same time and space. While Old Delhi, built by Mughal Emperor Shahjehan in the 17th century, still retains its medieval character to a great extent and almost indubitably reminds one of the crowded old towns of the Middle East; New Delhi is like any other modern city with tall buildings and massive shopping complexes.
Accommodation: The Oberoi; Included meals: None.
Overnight in Delhi.
Day 2: Delhi - Karauli
This morning we will board a train to Hindaun, followed by a drive to Karauli (1 hour). Train details will be advised closer to the date of travel.
The old, holy city of Karauli was officially founded in 1348 AD, however, legend has it that this princely state was established by Raja Bijal pal Jadon, the 88th descendent of Lord Krishna, as far back as 995 AD.
In the evening, we will explore the 500-year-old city palace full of frescos, fine stone carvings and paintings. Within the city palace is a famous lord Krishna temple (Madan Mohan ji) where we will attend evening arti (religious ceremony) before returning to the hotel.
Accommodation: Bhanwar Vilas Palace; Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight in Karauli.
Day 3: Karauli (18-25 miles/30-40 km)
We begin cycling today as we go for a loop ride with picnic lunch around Kaila Devi National Park. The park is a part of the Project Tiger and is a buffer zone to Ranthambore National park. The typical features of the sanctuary are numerous khos or deep gorges breaking the ground. We will also visit the villages located on the natural habitat inside the sanctuary. On the way back we will stop at the beautiful Kaila Devi temple and see the 200 bed hospital run by the temple trust.
Accommodation: Bhanwar Vilas Palace; Inclulded meals: Breakfast, Lunch; Terrain: Stunning countryside dotted with small villages.
Overnight in Karauli.
Day 4: Karauli - Ranthambore (37 miles/60 km)
This morning we ride to Ranthambore National Park. Post lunch we will go for a jeep safari inside the National Park to attempt catching a glimpse of the elusive tiger and other wildlife of the park.
Earlier the private hunting preserve of the Maharajas of Jaipur, Ranthambore was once the scene of royal hunting parties. Today, it is famous for its tigers and is one of the best places in the country to see these majestic predators in the wild. However, its royal heritage prevails and manifests itself in the picturesque ruins that dot the park. There are lake palaces, cenotaphs, old fortifications and a majestic thousand year old fort on a height overlooking the park.
At one time excessive trophy hunting nearly wiped out the tiger population in Ranthambore like other parts of the country. Fortunately, Ranthambore was selected as one of the sites of Project Tiger to rehabilitate the Indian Tiger. Nearly extinct at the beginning of their efforts, the program has been highly successful.
The tigers can be spotted quite often even during the day, at their normal, pursuits - hunting and taking care of their young. With the strict measures that have been taken for their conservation, they seem quite accustomed to human activity and are not disturbed by it.
Besides tiger, Ranthambore is home to mammals such as leopard, hyena, jackal, jungle cats, sloth bear, reptiles such as marsh crocodile and a large variety of bird-life that includes Jacanas, painted stork, black stork and white necked stork which are seen along the water bodies. Peafowl are found in abundance and other birds include Bonelli’s eagle, crested serpent eagle, the great Indian horned owl, quail, partridge, spurfowl and paradise flycatcher.
Accommodation: Dev Vilas; Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner; Terrain: Through jungles, valleys and wilderness on dirt road.
Overnight in Ranthambore.
Day 5: Ranthambore - Bundi (31 miles/50 km)
After breakfast, we drive/ride to Bundi through some beautiful villages and the Aravali hills. It is a scenic ash felt route, heading south west, going past fields and lakes.
Bundi is a former capital of a once princely state in Rajasthan that fills a narrow valley in the oldest hills of India, Aravalis. The town sits still and massed, spreading across the floor of the valley and straggling up the bare hills. In the evening we will walk up the fort using stone steps and ramps which were built for horsemen and chariots.
Accommodation: Bundi Vilas; Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch; Terrain: Flat terrain, riding on state road.
Overnight in Bundi.
Day 6: Bundi - Pushkar (31 miles/50 km)
Today we cycle to Pushkar, better known for its annual cattle fair in the month of November. However, Pushkar is a very important pilgrimage centre for the Hindus. It is a lakeside town with many temples and bathing ghats and throughout the year the devotees at Pushkar Lake can be seen ritual bathing. In fact, some scholar are of the opinion that ritual cleansing in Pushkar Lake is a prehistoric time practice continuing with varied explanations till today.
Besides ritual bathing Pushkar is also the only place where there is a temple for Brahma — the creator god of the Hindu Trinity.
In the evening, we will visit the holy Pushkar lake and its bathing ghats. We will also visit the Brahma temple.
Accommodation: Orchard; Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch; Terrain: Flat and then hilly.
Overnight in Pushkar.
Day 7: Pushkar – Bijay (31 miles/50 km)
Post breakfast, we drive/ride to Bijay Niwas Palace, a charming boutique hotel hidden amidst vast private farmlands and orchard. It is a family run heritage hotel offering personalized service and attention to detail that makes the warm welcome and the stay unforgettable.

Accommodation: Bijay Niwas Palace; Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch; Terrain: Flat terrain.
Overnight in Bijay.
Day 8: Bijay Niwas Palace - Jojawar (31 miles/50 km)
After breakfast, we ride to Jojawar. Set amidst the Aravalli hills, this little garrison fort was once a major principality of the Royal house of Marwar. You will arrive at Jojawar in time for lunch and would be at leisure for the rest of the day.
Jojawar is a perfect place for those looking for the old world charm of the princely fiefdoms of yesteryear.

The country around Jojawar boasts of very interesting landscapes, with the picturesque Aravalli Hills in the east, and broken rocky hills interspersed with farms and scrub forests all around. The camel herding Rabaris are an ethnic group only to be found around Jojawar and you will cycle to their homesteads, through pretty little hamlets where time seems to have stopped.

Founded in 1459, Jodhpur was once the capital of the Marwar State and a major trade center in the 16th century due to its location on the ancient silk route. Today, Jodhpur has grown to become the second largest city in Rajasthan without shedding its medieval splendour.
Accommodation: Ratan Vilas; Includled meals: Breakfast, Lunch; Terrain: Rural countryside.
Overnight in Jodhpur.
Day 11: Jodhpur – Onward Destination
Today you will be taken to explore Jodhpur town – visiting imposing Mehrangarh Fort and Jaswant Thada.
Mehrangarh fort, one of the largest forts in India, is unsurpassed in beauty and grandeur. Innumerable palaces in the fort, Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana are interspersed with sprawling courtyards and intricately carved balconies. A collection of old weapons, arms, musical instruments, palanquins, royal costumes and furniture are preserved and displayed in the Sileh Khana.
Close to the fort is the 19th century royal cenotaph, Jaswant Thada, a creation in white marble which displays some rare portraits of Jodhpur's rulers.
