The Milano Helvetia is a long established, family run hotel located in the popular seaside town of Riccione and only 15 minutes from Rimini airport. During the Summer we are a busy beach holiday based hotel but during Spring and Autumn months we open our door and welcome cyclists, offering a fully guided bike holiday service. From our 3-star hotel, we offer 2 different daily guided groups riding to the nicest destinations in the area on the prettiest, least congested roads we know.
English speaking guides will take you to beautiful destinations including, Republic of San Marino, Urbino, San Leo and many more in the surrounding countryside, passing through quaint hilltop villages and towns along the way. It’s a beautiful area and one that many guests, after discovering it, return to year after year.We really offer everything, including our guided bike tours, secure bike storage, bike rental, laundry of bike clothing, and delicious food with either the beach or our pool (one of the largest hotel pools in the area) to relax by after your days ride!
Our prices are based on full board accommodation (2 people per room) and include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also included in the price is wi-fi, use of the Turkish bath, solarium….and if you want a single room, should we have one available, unlike most hotels you won’t pay a supplement for it! We are also happy to accommodate non cycling partners. There are many things to do within the area, markets in Rimini and Riccione, wine tasting in Spadarolo, cheese tasting in Mondaino or a visit to San Marino.
Bring the kids, there’s the beach which lies less than 50 m away and the local aquaparks and centers. We are proud of our genuine, friendly service, the family atmosphere and outstanding value for money. Why not come and join our family for your next holiday?

There are many different destinations possible from our base here in Riccione. San Marino, San Leo, Urbino, Mondaino and many more besides - and there are many different ways to get to each!!!
For example, we have tours to San Marino between 40 miles (65 km) and 68 miles (110 km) so the groups that ride less distance, and do not miss out on the nice destinations. Here at the Milano we will devise a programme to suit our guests each and every week and take you to all the best places on the prettiest roads with the best views and scenery.
We organize a minimum of 2 daily groups and sometimes more depending on how fast and how far you want to ride. One tour is longer, faster and usually harder while the other tours will be ridden at more sedate speeds and normally shorter allowing you to take your time, enjoy the countryside, relax a little more and take life a little easier. All tours involve a coffee stop which will usually be approx mid-way through the tour and at a castle town or pretty village.
Our guides will welcome you on your arrival day and plan a medium level tour as a warm up for your first day so that you may see what the area and surrounding terrain is like. Now you know what to expect we can then devise and confirm the weeks programme, including daily distances and climbing meters so you may plan your week ahead and know which days to save the most energy for!!!
We have listed below a typical weekly programme based on 2 tours daily with links to the tours Included. Of course, this is a only suggested weeks programme and we adapt to the level of our cyclists each and every week so there is something for everyone. Why not come and see for yourself why this area is so popular with cyclists the world over. We know that 2 days have the same tours for both groups. It's designed for a hard day for the Giro Corta and a recovery easier day for the Giro Lunga....we thought you might like to see each other on the road at some stage too althought the faster group will give the others a head start maybe!!! However, this is only a suggested schedule and can be adjusted accordingly if needed.
'Giro Medio' (medium distance ride)
Day 1: Panoramica Strada (40 miles/65 km)
Day 2: Urbino (63 miles/102 km)
Day 3: Mondaino (49 miles/79 km)
Day 4: Sant’Arcangelo (39 miles/63 km)
Day 5: San Marino (48 miles/77 km)
Day 6: Mercatino Conca (42 miles/68 km)
Day 7: Panoramic Reverse (38 miles/61 km)
‘Giro Lunga’ (longer, faster & harder ride)
Day 1: Panoramica Strada (53 miles/85 km)
Day 2: Urbino (72 miles/115 km)
Day 3: Mondaino (49 miles/79 km)
Day 4: San Leo (68 miles/110 km)
Day 5: San Marino (54 miles/87 km)
Day 6: Cippo (84 miles/135 km)
Day 7: Panoramic Reverse (51 miles/82 km)
These schedules represent a typical weeks programme but are not set in stone and just show an example of what we can offer. If neccessary and numbers sufficient we also offer a 3rd group tailored o the level of our clients.

Nearest airport: Riccione, Italy
Rimini airport is the closest to the hotel and only minutes away. There is not a charge to transfer from there to the hotel.
The next closest airports are Forli and Bologna, both of which the tour company are able to arrange collection from. However, in this instance there would be a charge which is dependant on the quantity of people within the transfer group.
Alternatively, from Bologna, the train is an easy proposition and very inexpensive. It arrives at either Rimini or Riccione train stations, both from which the tour company can arrange the transfer free of charge.

Bike rental is available. The tour company has thir own small fleet of quality road bikes, carbon frame from Italian manufacturer Prestigio. All our Prestigio have carbon fibre frames and Sram groupsets and are recent models in well maintained condition. Due to the surrounding terrain, we supply bikes with compact chainsets and gearing suited to the area our tours travel in.
With each bike rental, a small under saddle bag containing one inner tube, tire levers, co2 cartridge and dispenser. If required the first tube is free and subsequent replacements available at cost, which would be a more favourable price than the local stores. Also supplied is a bike computer and one complimentary water bottle. In addition, should you choose to ride with our guides, they also carry 2 tubes and a mini pump.
In the hotel, their is a secure storage room for the bikes and a work stand along with tools for basic maintenance and an area in which to clean bikes if required. In 2012, a a new, larger room was dedicated specifically dedicated to this and nothing else.

All of our tours/daily rides involve hills and climbing to varying degrees. We offer at least 2 daily groups to allow for this and to cater for differing speeds/abilities. The faster tour usually involves greater distances and also additional and harder climbing. We try and avoid traffic wherever possible which also allows us to take in the beautiful surrounding countryside and views. Occassionally the road surface can be a little rough as the area does suffer hard Winters, but we avoid the worst of these roads, selecting the ones that offer the best compromise between road quality versus traffic ensuring a great but safe days ride!
Level of difficulty:
Moderate to advanced usually. However, if we know we have a group arriving that wish to ride at a more sedate level then it is possible for us to devise a programme suitable for their needs.
What percentage of this tour are on the following surfaces?
We try and avoid traffic wherever possible. This can vary depending on the daily tour but on average but would estimate around:
- Bike paths: 1%
- Quiet roads: 85%
- Roads shared with traffic: 14%
How flat or hilly is this tour?
As we offer 2 different level of tours daily we can tailor this to the level of our guests on any given week. Generally I would say the area is moderately to very hilly.
What is the maximum daily elevation gain?
As we offer 2 different level of tours daily we can tailor this to the level of our guests on any given week. As an indication though, I would say that there are very few days with less than 1,800 ft (550 m) climbing on a tour exceeding 34 miles (55 km).
What is the maximum gradient?
As we offer 2 different level of tours daily we can tailor this to the level of our guests on any given week. We can adjust our tours as the week goes through to account for tired legs or different ability levels but in general we would advise that anyone riding our guided tours should be able to ride a minimum of 30 miles(50 km) daily with a minimum of 1800 ft (550 m) elevation gain.
This tour is rated moderate- challenging and is for cyclists in good to above average physical condition.
