This 7 day/6 night Medieval villages cycling tour is a perfect way to explore the quieter and less travelled areas of this fascinating region of Catalonia.
The tour starts in Girona city and winds its way gently through the undulating and ever changing scenery of the Baix Emporda. All of the cycling takes place on quiet country roads that are part of the Baix Emporda Cycle Network. The network has been developed to allow cyclists to fully enjoy the splendours of this area.
The tour follows the cycling network for 5 nights and finishes in the charming medieval village of Monells. Your luggage will be transported for you from hotel to hotel so you can relax and enjoy the cycling to its fullest. The accommodation provided is staying in 3- and 4-star hotels, including breakfast with your stay.
Each day’s ride is approximately 25 miles/40 km and covers terrain that is mostly flat with rolling hills, so you can pace yourself to stop and enjoy the views. Each day, after arriving at your hotel, there are plenty of great cycling options to explore the local areas further. These rides range from 12-25 miles/20-40 km, so if you have enough energy to ‘see a little more’ then each area is well worth exploring. You will be provided with detailed maps and route plans to help you on your way.
Each day from your hotels you will explore the beautiful scenery of the Baix Emporda region of Catalonia, cycling the selected highlights of the well sign posted Cycle Network. Additionally, you will cycle a variety of stunning rides that will clearly explain why this area of Europe is renowned as a cyclist’s paradise!
The rest of the tour follows the well marked "Baix Emporda Cycle Network" that utilizes quiet country lanes and back roads that are almost completely free from traffic. The road surfaces are a mix of hard packed gravel and tarmac. The terrain is again mostly flat with few hills to climb. Luggage is transported from hotel to hotel.
The Medieval Villages tour is our easiest tour and is well within the reach of almost all cycling abilities. In addition, it is a beautiful route that encompasses spending time to explore Girona city, being by the Mediterranean Sea as well as cycling through the timeless Medieval Villages of the Baix Emporda region of Catalonia, Spain.

Creative Catalonia is a family company run by Daniel Herzberg and Lucy Kinnison. We are a married couple who live in what we consider to be the most diverse and exciting part of Spain. We are 100% committed to providing our clients the most rewarding cycling or walking holiday experience in the Catalonia region of Spain that one could hope for.
We are very proud to announce the birth of our lovely daughter Chloe who was born on the 4th of March, 2010, just 4 days before one of the worst snow storms ever to hit this part of Catalonia - which left over 200,000 homes without power for up to a week! Welcome to the world, Chloe.
We are both Australian and British citizens as well as Spanish residents. Daniel was born in the United Kingdom and then emigrated to Perth, Western Australia with his family when he was 7 and grew up exploring the great outdoors of Western Australia. Lucy was born and raised in the United Kingdom before embarking on her 'global travels' after completing her university studies. After living together for several years in Spain we moved to Sydney in New South Wales where Lucy became an Australian citizen.
The desire to live in Spain was too strong and we moved back to the Girona area in Catalonia to create our own Cycling and Walking holiday company to share our great enthusiasm for this beautiful area with others.
For us, a day out on foot or bicycle exploring the hidden corners of this cyclists and walkers paradise is without doubt the true joy of being here. We love to share our local knowledge and experiences with others and that is the reason for the creation of Creative Catalonia.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
All the best from,
Chloe, Oliver, Lucy, Daniel & Max the dog.
