This is a scenic and awe-inspiring adventure with seemingly endless beach views. Riding down the narrowest part of Thailand this tour snakes along the east and west coast of Thailand, giving you the opportunity to compare the beauty of the beaches on the Gulf of Thailand to those on the Andaman Sea.

On this 850 kilometre road ride you’ll cycle on smooth tarmac through quaint little villages, pass Buddhist temples and waving children as you absorb the slower pace of life of the relaxed and friendly locals.

Our cycling starts just outside Bangkok and ends on the beach in Phuket. In between we ride along some spectacular coastline scenery and are awed by the spectacular limestone cliffs jutting vertically out of the landscape.

Crossing the Isthmus of Kra will prove to be hilly but offer up great scenery as a reward. We overnight at a hot spring resort and continue down Thailand’s west coast to the rugged beauty of Khao Lak before crossing the bridge to the island of Phuket. We overnight at beautiful resorts where you can take a refreshing dip in the pool before indulging in some fresh off-the-boat seafood.

Varied riding, spectacular coastline scenery, statuesque peaks and the warm and hospitable Thai culture will be among the many highlights of this adventure.

Daily Program: Guided

Day 1: Petchaburi - Hua Hin (42 miles/67 km)
We meet at a Bangkok hotel before we transfer to the start of our ride in Petchaburi (approximately 2 hours). This ride is a gentle start to the trip as we head out of Petchaburi and into rural Thailand, along roads flanked by paddy fields and palm trees. We then ride along the beach into Cha-am and on to the beach resort town of Hua Hin. The town is closely tied to Thai royalty and the king currently resides at the summer palace located just outside town. The last 20 km is on a main road but there is a wide shoulder to ride on and if the traffic proves to be too heavy this section can be transferred. We’ll top off our day with a seafood dinner on a pier in the center of town. Meals: L, D.

Day 2: Hua Hin - Prachuap Khiri Khan (72 miles/116 km)
We head out of Hua Hin, towards Sam Roi Yot (300 hundred peaks) national park. This park has spectacular limestone formations and freshwater marshes in between the peaks. We ride on quiet back roads alongside beaches with many the peaks as our background. After the park we have a short ride on the main road, about 20 km, before heading back to the coast, passing many small villages on the way. The final section is along the beach to Prachuap Khiri Khan. The selected hotel has some great views and as the town is well known for having some the finest seafood in Thailand we’ll feast on the local specialties at dinner. Meal: BLD.

Day 3:  Prachuap Khiri Khan – Ban Krut (48 miles/78 km)
We leave the hotel and ride along the beach front road for about 12 km before hitting the main road. This section is 45 km with the option to transfer if preferred. We are now well away from the main tourist areas and the roads are quiet and in good condition. We head towards a serene beach and our nature-friendly boutique resort. Time to relax in a hammock and listen to the surf. Meals: BLD
Overnight in Ban Krut. 

Day 4: Ban Krut (Rest Day) 
This is a rest day – you’ve earned it. Spend it relaxing at the beach, wandering around the fishing village of Ban Krut or take a dip in one of the two salt water pools at the resort. Meals: B.

Day 5: Ban Krut - Chumpon (73 miles/118 km)
With rested legs it’s time to do some serious kilometers. Today we ride 118 kilometers on quiet side roads with very little traffic. Our route sticks to the coast today giving us views of the sea to the left and rugged mountains on our right. We are passing through Thailand’s narrowest part as the border with Burma is less than 20 km away at some points. We end the ride just north of Chumpon, at another secluded and quiet beach. Day 6: Chumpon - Ranong (86 miles/139 km)
Today we cross the Isthmus of Kra, which separates the Gulf of Thailand from the Adaman Sea and is just 44 km wide at it narrowest point. We head west for about 60 km on an undulating road that cuts through the lush jungle clad mountains that surround this area. The hills and the twists and turns in the road make for some varied riding. There is a climb of about 3 km starting at the Pun Ya Ban waterfall and then it is downhill and flat all the way to Ranong. This is a spa town and the hotel has a hot mineral spring pool to sooth those aching muscles. Meals: BLD

Day 7: Ranong – Khuraburi (78 miles/125km)
We ride through valleys today so the road will be rolling, but there are no extreme climbs, just enough ascents and descents to make the ride interesting. We’ll pass many villages and children waving and yelling out farang, farang (foreigner). After some great views the ride ends in a lovely little resort nestled in a valley and surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. Meals: BLD
Overnight in Khuraburi. 

Day 8: Khuraburi - Khao Lak (49 miles/79 km)
We continue our journey south, riding from valley to valley towards picturesque Khao Lak. The road flattens out a bit as we reach Takua Pa, which is a former Portuguese settlement. The region was an important tin-dredging center in the first half of the 20th century, but there remains little evidence of the mining as rubber plantations have covered the dredged land. We next ride through one of the worst areas devastated by the 2004 Tsunami. You’ll be amazed to see how quickly this area has bounced back and rebuilt. There is a small climb to our hotel which is right on the beach and set next to a small national park. Meals: BLD. 
Overnight in Khao Lak. 

Day 9: Khao Lak - Phuket (80 miles/128 km)
The last leg of the tour is to the tropical paradise of Phuket island, Thailand’s largest island. There are a couple of small hills to conquer before we leave Khao Lak, but then it’s flat all the way down to Phang Nga and Phuket. This road is in excellent condition and you’ll make good time towards our resort on Surin beach. Phuket is connected by a bridge to the mainland and we’ll stop for a celebratory picture before riding on to our hotel. If we are feeling energetic we can take a very scenic coastal road where there are a few small but steep hills on the way. The views are well worth the extra effort though. Meals: BLD

Day 10: Free Day/Departure
Today is yours to relax and rest after eight days of great riding. We can help with arrangements if you’d like to extend your stay at Phuket or organize transfers to the airport for onward flights. Meals: B

Bike Rentals: Guided

The bikes are Trek 2.1 C road bikes with Shimano components and carbon forks and seat posts. If you have your own saddle that you are comfortable with you are welcome to bring it and we'll fit it. We can provide strap-style toe cages if requested, but you might like to consider bringing SPD clip pedals if you use them, and please make sure to bring your shoes and cleats. If you bring your own bike, please make sure it is a road bike and that it is in good mechanical order.

Basic spares and tools are carried by the guide and on the support vehicle, though we cannot guarantee having spares for every conceivable problem. Carrying a basic tool kit, a spare tube and a pump while riding is recommended.

Wearing a helmet is strongly recommended on all our biking adventures and if you choose not to wear one you will be asked to sign a liability waiver. Your guide is trained in first aid and emergency rescue, but to a large degree you must be responsible for your own safety while riding. It is therefore compulsory that you take out travel insurance that will cover you for a road biking tour.

Spice Roads Cancellation Policy

(Involuntary) On the rare occasions when we, SpiceRoads, must cancel a trip, all payments received to date will be 100% refunded, which constitutes full settlement. There will be absolutely no deductions.

(Voluntary) If you, the client, must cancel your reservation, your cancellation fee will be determined according to the following formula:

For all tours (except short Thailand tours 4 days or less, see below):

 **Administration fees include bank fees and exchange rate losses.

Exceptions to this policy cannot be made for any reason, including weather or personal emergencies. Please note:

• There is no refund for arriving late or leaving a trip early.
• Single supplements are considered part of the trip price and are subject to cancellation fees.
• Spice Roads reserves the right to make route and hotel modifications as needed.
• Spice Roads is not responsible for expenses incurred in preparation for any canceled trips, such as airline tickets.
• Guests who fail to provide signed "Release of Liability and Assumption of All Risks" and personal information forms prior to trip departure will not be allowed to join the trip and the cancellation policy applies.

We strongly advise that clients have full personal travel insurance that covers for the refund of monies paid in case either party cancels the tour for any reason.

We regret that we cannot be held responsible for incidental/consequential costs or expenses you may incur as a result of any changes or cancellations. No compensation is payable for minor changes.

Any damages/injuries incurred that are attributable to your own actions, acts of some other party unconnected with the contract services or where the damage/injury results from events/circumstances which our outside our control and could not be reasonably foreseen.

For damages where SpiceRoads is responsible, our liability is strictly limited to twice the total price of the tour. In booking a tour with SpiceRoads you, the client, are agreeing to these terms and you accept this limit on our liability. This limit allows us to keep the prices of our tours as low as possible.

Documentation

You must be in possession of a valid passport and all the visas and permits required for your tour. This includes any medical certificates that are required. The client accepts full responsibility for obtaining any and all such documentation. Every client is encouraged to contact the consulate/embassy for the countries they are traveling in respectively to receive the latest and most current information about their immigration / transit policies.

SpiceRoads does not accept responsibility if your documentation is not in order. Information provided by the company about these matters and other related items (clothing, baggage, climate etc.) is given in good faith but without responsibility on the part of the company.

Travel Insurance

For all tours (except short Thailand tours 4 days or less, see below):

SpiceRoads insists that all clients must take out good travel insurance before joining one of our tours. There are inherent risks involved in cycling and mountain biking and we will not be liable for your medical expenses or evacuation in case of an accident.

This insurance must include adequate coverage for any personal accident, medical expenses, injury, death and repatriation. Insurance should also provide coverage for cancellations or curtailment of the holiday. Tour Authority

Upon signing up for a tour you must agree to accept the authority of the tour leader who is the representative of the company. The tour leader should be regarded as the same as a “ship’s captain” or an airline’s “Pilot.”

At all times the authority of your tour leader will be final when concerning matters likely to endanger your own health or safety or in regard to behavior or ill health that is causing or is likely to cause danger, distress or disturbance to the group and the well-being of the tour. Failure to abide by the authority of the tour leader could result in legal proceedings and the immediate termination of your participation in the tour without recourse.

In such circumstances we reserve the right to terminate all travel arrangements without liability on the part of the company. You must always comply with the local law, customs and drug regulations of the country/ies you are visiting. Failure to do so may lead to you being ordered to leave the tour without recourse to any refund or any legal claim against the company. In the case of ill health the company and its operators can make those arrangements that it sees fit and recover all monies paid from the client. The person who signs the booking form (which incorporates these conditions) warrants that he/she does so, with full authority on behalf of all those whose names appear thereon, and confirms thereby that all such persons accept and are fully aware of these conditions.

No refund will be given for non-utilized services, however if we are able to obtain a refund ourselves for these services we will endeavor to pass these on to the client less reasonable administration charges.

Surcharges

SpiceRoads pledges never to increase the tour price except under exceptional circumstances for those that have previously book the tour. Circumstances of this policy include: government action or legislation that directs the company to increase prices, exceptional and unfavorable changes in exchange rates that exceed a 20% fluctuation or currency devaluation.

Clients will be notified of any price increase at least 4 weeks before departure.

Flights or delays

We will not accept any liability for any delay in your outward or inward flight/s, whether the cancellation or delay is caused by the weather, airline rescheduling, industrial action or mechanical failure. We will give no refunds or compensation for lost time and services from the itinerary.

Complaints

Should you have a complaint while on tour, you must notify your guide, or the local operator, at the earliest opportunity, so that they can do what they can to immediately rectify it. Failure to do so will result in the limiting of a client's ability to claim compensation. If the problem is not brought to our attention we have no opportunity to rectify it. Any complaints should be sent to us in writing, or by email, not more than 28 days after the tour ends.

Complaints related to booking, inquires, billing, sales or operations should be directed to the Sales and Marketing Manager and/or the General Manager.

Limited Liability

SpiceRoads is not liable for any bodily injury or property damage as a result of (but not limited to): physical exertion for which a guest is not prepared; forces of nature; travel by plane, train, auto, boat or other conveyance, or by bicycle, horseback, foot or other form of active or adventure travel; consumption of alcoholic beverages; civil unrest; terrorism; breakdown of equipment; high altitude; lack of or limited access to medical attention in remote locations; and the adequacy of medical attention once provided.

SpiceRoads is also not liable for: expenses (e.g., meals, transportation or hotel costs) that are not specified as included in the trip cost but may be required to get to or from a trip start or end point.

SpiceRoads reserves the right to make route and hotel modifications as necessary to improve the trip quality or to accommodate the comfort and well-being of guests. Guests grant SpiceRoads express permission to take photographs or make film records of its trips for promotional and commercial use, as well as approve such use by third parties with whom SpiceRoads may engage in joint marketing, without financial remuneration.

Spice Roads Cancellation Policy

(Involuntary) On the rare occasions when we, SpiceRoads, must cancel a trip, all payments received to date will be 100% refunded, which constitutes full settlement. There will be absolutely no deductions.

(Voluntary) If you, the client, must cancel your reservation, your cancellation fee will be determined according to the following formula:

Exceptions to this policy cannot be made for any reason, including weather or personal emergencies. Please note:

• There is no refund for arriving late or leaving a trip early.
• Single supplements are considered part of the trip price and are subject to cancellation fees.
• Spice Roads reserves the right to make route and hotel modifications as needed.
• Spice Roads is not responsible for expenses incurred in preparation for any canceled trips, such as airline tickets.
• Guests who fail to provide signed "Release of Liability and Assumption of All Risks" and personal information forms prior to trip departure will not be allowed to join the trip and the cancellation policy applies.

We strongly advise that clients have full personal travel insurance that covers for the refund of monies paid in case either party cancels the tour for any reason.

We regret that we cannot be held responsible for incidental/consequential costs or expenses you may incur as a result of any changes or cancellations. No compensation is payable for minor changes.

Any damages/injuries incurred that are attributable to your own actions, acts of some other party unconnected with the contract services or where the damage/injury results from events/circumstances which our outside our control and could not be reasonably foreseen.

For damages where SpiceRoads is responsible, our liability is strictly limited to twice the total price of the tour. In booking a tour with SpiceRoads you, the client, are agreeing to these terms and you accept this limit on our liability. This limit allows us to keep the prices of our tours as low as possible.

Documentation

You must be in possession of a valid passport and all the visas and permits required for your tour. This includes any medical certificates that are required. The client accepts full responsibility for obtaining any and all such documentation. Every client is encouraged to contact the consulate/embassy for the countries they are traveling in respectively to receive the latest and most current information about their immigration / transit policies.

SpiceRoads does not accept responsibility if your documentation is not in order. Information provided by the company about these matters and other related items (clothing, baggage, climate etc.) is given in good faith but without responsibility on the part of the company.

Travel Insurance

SpiceRoads insists that all clients must take out good travel insurance before joining one of our tours. There are inherent risks involved in cycling and mountain biking and we will not be liable for your medical expenses or evacuation in case of an accident.
