Suggested packing list
See information on appropriate clothing and equipment for your bicycle tour. We also have packing tips to help lighten your load.
Equipment
- Helmet
- Water bottle
- Waist pack or small day pack
Clothing
- 2 pairs of riding shorts (we recommend padded shorts and that you try them out before your tour)
- 2 riding jerseys
- 2-3 t-shirts and/or casual shirts (quick-dry)
- Bathing suit
- 2 pairs of bike socks and/or 2 pairs of white socks (quick-dry)
- 1-2 pairs of dress or casual socks
- Windbreaker or cool-weather jacket (rainproof and breathable)
- Light rain jacket or poncho (cheap version is fine—insurance on sunny days!)
- Bike shoes (not clip-in) or shoes with non-flexing sole (multi-purpose hiking/biking is ideal)
- 1-2 pairs of riding gloves
- 2-3 sets of underwear (quick-dry)
- Sweater or fleece
- Slacks or light jeans (quick-dry, wrinkle resistant)
- Belt
- Sweat band or bandanna
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sandals
- Polypropelene or Bergolene long underwear (thin, thermal, water-wicking)
- Arm- and leg-warmers
- Cool-weather bike gloves (or thermal liner)
Toiletries
If checking a bag:
- Toiletry kit (with hanging hook, if possible)
- Tooth brush and tooth paste
- Razor Hair brush
- Sun block
- Vaseline or other salve for chafing
- Medications (in original bottles with your name on them)
- Pain reliever of choice
- Shampoo
- Deodorant (your traveling companions will thank you)
- Hand sanitizer
If carrying on, flying out of U.S.:
See above, but keep fluids under 3 oz. each, all contained in a quart-size zippered bag. Buy the razor at your destination.
Miscellaneous
- Passport, wallet and ID
- Health insurance card
- Travel insurance card
- Cash, credit cards and/or travelers checks
- Clothes line (elastic, multi-ply)
- Small towel (quick-dry)
- Liquid detergent
- Alarm clock
- Camera
- Plastic bags (for dirty laundry, wet clothes, and makeshift ponchos)
